Switching Location ISP- Focus

Switching Location ISP- Focus

1- It may help to have site contact to send pics so that you can verify connections and clarify steps for the switch over to new device.
2- If available having contact label the cables with a sharpie often helps particularly where multiple cables looking the same can often confuse someone not familiar with networking or if cabling is tangled up.
3- Before moving cables ensure there are enough ports on new device. If not, having them get new switch will be needed (or using old network boxes for temporary solution until one can be obtained).
 4- Broadband (usually Verizon)-
        a) no WAN cable is needed.
        b) if adequate ports available, simply move all device cables to new device.
        c) if more ports are needed have a cable from the broadband box to the network switch and continue the move over with remaining cables.
 5- Hardline Connection-
        a) ensure WAN cable is connected to WAN or Internet port for new ISP device.
        b) use same procedure's as above (4b & c) to swap over all device cable connections.
6- During above process you will loose remote access. Once hardware swap over is completed by site contact have them ensure connection to office PC is established by opening a web browser.
        a) Verizon broadband may require a sign in or connection confirmation at this point. Have contact keep an eye on PC for access request to pop or notification in taskbar.
7- Once connection of office PC is established and contact can access a 1 or more websites successfully...
        a) remote into PC and check if the subnet has changed. (i.e. most Focus subnets are 192.168.250.251 [ws1] where the 3rd set of numbers ".250" is the subnet.)
        b) if so, take note and proceed to access registers to ensure connection or make subnet updates if needed.
8- If sub net has changed; for each device connected to the POS system via network connection (not needed for serial and/or USB connections):
        a) go to network settings>Change Adapter Options    {If having trouble finding, go to windows search in the taskbar and type in "Control Panel"> click on "Network and Internet">Network and Sharing Center.
there will be a "Change Adapter Options in left panel or a "Connections: Ethernet" line with a network cable icon that you can click on. Either way have to get into the connection Properties>Internet Protocol
            Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) and then into the properties to update the IP subnet info. }
        b) update subnet. If remote connection is lost, this is normal after saving the update. Wait a minute or two to attempt reconnect.
9- Make sure to if the office PC has WIFI enabled. This will effect the connection for the Focus office link of it is.
10- If WIFI is enabled; set the hardline to the correct subnet, and then turnoff WIFI connection.
11- After it is turned off you will have to reconnect remotely.
12- Make sure to test the following:
      a) credit cards work by running test transaction.
      b) orders going to all order screens
      c) each station can see the other, and the office PC can access Focus/setup via the desktop shortcut.
      d) office PC can print reports to office printer.
