This step is primarily used for SpotOn systems, but can apply else where when a Generic print to text is needed.
1) open up "Printers and Devices" in Windows 10.
2) Remove all unnecessary printers and devices in the bottom that indicate a printer.
3) Click on the "Add Printer"
4) Select below the printer search area, select the "the printer that I want isn't listed" and then "NEXT."
5) Choose the last option "Add a local printer or network printer with manual settings" and then "NEXT."
6) With "Use an existing port:" select the drop down window and choose one of the "USB00... (Virtual printer port for USB)"and then "NEXT."
7) Scroll down and select "Generic" on the left list and "Generic/Text Only" and then "NEXT."
8) On the next page choose either and then "NEXT."
9) For SpotOn the printer name needs to match BOH which is by default "DefaultPrinter"; it can be another name, but the BOH needs to updated to match.
If there is another printer on the network with the same name it will give and error as they cannot have the same name. Consider adding "DefaultPrinter1"
with the appropriate changes in the BOH.
10) Back in the window for "Printers and Devices" in Windows 10... right click/press and hold (touchscreen) on the newly added printer and select the "Printer Properties"
from the list.
11) Run a test print from the General tab.
12) if successful at this point you are done...IF NOT SUCCESSFUL proceed.
13) Select the Port tab and choose the next available "USB00... (Virtual printer port for USB)"and then "Apply."
14) Repeat Step #11...IF NOT SUCCESSFUL
a) if there is another "USB00... (Virtual printer port for USB)" option in the Port list set the printer to that port and test again.
b) if there is not another USB00.. port available or one is not listed at all...proceed.
